Maurizio Nannucci

26 January – 20 March 2018

For his ffth solo-exhibition at the gallery MAURIZIO NANNUCCI (*1939) has created a new light art installation especially for Galerie Nikolaus Ruzicska. The concept of the neon-work, which is being presented for the frst time focuses on the circular shape as a basic geometrical fgure, on the oculus in architecture and art, and on the mental circular progress of understanding language and fnding meaning within it. The installation consists of four neon works. In red, blue, yellow and white the neon writings shine, curved into a complete circle, repeating the sentence:

MOVING BETWEEN DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES AND OPEN SINGULARITIES

is set circularly in neon lettering up on the wall with a diameter of 250 centimetres. The artist describes the circle as a self-contained shape: precise and defnite. Hitherto, MAURIZIO NANNUCCI has rarely used the circular form in his oeuvre: the most prominent example is the ''Blue Ring'' in the German parliament's library in Berlin. The circular text-design refers to thoughts of Hannah Arendt. Likewise stems the wording of our exhibition from the artist's original thoughts.

The neon writing which was created in four diferent colour variations, revolves around two phrases: ''Diferent Opportunities'' and ''Open Singularities''. Enclosed in the work's circle of light both terms refer to one another and form a constantly moving fgure of thought and a rounded of complex of meaning. The neon light's circular fow nullifes the semantic selectivity of the two terms and lets them merge into one another. Not as contradictions but as an interplay that has been set in motion, MAURIZIO NANNUCCI formulates and designs given, diferent opportunities//possibilities, which are open to the creative process, and the selection of the unique that has sprung from this multiplicity. MAURIZIO NANNUCCI reminds of the vast quantum of options, which are fltered by the Arts and Culture to fnd the quality of the atypical unique. Although the singular also always exists within its own plurality, consequently being self-contained, it must not be seen as a static entity but as something that obtains its distinct identity through the exchange of numerous opportunities.
